Funfair Fashion Show

In case some of you aren't aware yet, the fashionista behind this blog is a teacher. Last Sunday, we had a Funfair at school. It's a day when parents and students come to school on a weekend to hang out, have fun and get entertained. The teachers on the other hand prepare entertainment, booths and games to promote bonding between parents and children while raising funds for some worthwhile projects - so to speak.

Early on Sunday was very busy for us - hours before the funfair started. We had to complete the decorations for our booths which we've started doing since friday, with the interval of Saturday, Thank God it didn't rain in between.

My booth, along with my friend and co-teacher Joy, is the souvenir. As you can see in this picture, it ain't complete yet.

There were dances rendered by the students and my favorite being the dance by the K3 and K4. Not only was the dance choreographed by Joy, it also was a combination of fashion show of which, yours truly, came in. I lent a hand in choreographing the catwalk ;)

It's an International school. We have Indians, Thai, Japanese and other Asian ethnicity.

A dance and fashion show that's purely girls would be boring, mind you, so of course, boys had to come into the picture. After the little catwalk, the boys went up the stage to dance with the girls for the remaining half of the music.

The crowd loved the dance&catwalk presentation so much that it was done twice.

The bad thing about being the girl behind the lens stealing time to take photos while trying to sell our souvenir products is that, at the end of the day, I realized I've no single photo :(

It was a good day, I thought to share.

8 Tips to Select the Perfect Engagement Ring

When it's time to pop the question, make sure to have the best piece of jewelry for an engagement ring. If you want to delight her with your choice, consider these valuable recommendations: observe her likes and dislikes, pay attention to her clues, notice the items that look good on her hand, pick out the appropriate shape and setting, take into account her lifestyle, refer to her ring size, consider the idea of buying a loose diamond, and assess your resources.

With a huge selection of jewelry options, it’s not a surprise that you find choosing the best engagement ring for the love of your life a little challenging . You could let her make the choice. But, that wouldn’t be as romantic as handing her the ring unexpectedly. Here is some advice to help you choose the most worthwhile and ideal ring for her:

Observe her likes and dislikes

Pay attention to her likes and dislike when it comes to jewelry. This is the most important step. Indeed, the jewelry she frequently wears is the most appropriate guide in knowing her preferences. Nearly all women have their distinct choice of a particular metal color setting. Some want yellow gold as setting. Others would love to have a platinum setting. Another aspect is the style of jewelry she prefers to wear. There are women who have a penchant for classic jewelry. And, there are those who go for more contemporary ones.

Pay attention to her clues

Try to recall if she has ever talked about her choice of jewelry styles, specifically on engagement rings. If she hasn’t, then take her to the jewelry store. You can figure out her taste without being obvious at all. If you have to take her to the jewelry shop, make sure to visit several shops so you have a wide selection. But, be sure to go to established shops that are recognized for their competence in quality and style. If you think she is fond of designer rings, then you might want to visit a Los Angeles jewelry district leading manufacturer of superior jewelry pieces.

Take notice of the items that look good on her hands

Focus your searching on items that will without a doubt look good on her hand. If she happens to have short fingers, choose an oval or marquise diamond to give her fingers a better look. Women with long fingers can wear bolder styles.

Pick out the appropriate shape and setting

Choose the shape and setting that’s right for her. You can choose from the following choices of diamond shapes: round, elongated, heart, and square cut. She can have a solitaire diamond or she can also have a cluster of diamonds in a band.

Take into account her lifestyle

Consider her lifestyle when buying her an engagement ring. Don’t give her an elaborate one if it is inappropriate for her daily activities. As much as possible, avoid a ring with high prongs, as it will likely to snag on clothing.

Refer to her ring size

Find out of her ring size by asking a friend or a family member who can secretly obtain one of her rings that you can use as a guide.

Consider buying a loose diamond

Another nice option is to give her a loose diamond when asking her the big question. Then maybe later on both of you can go out together and order a setting to match the diamond.

Assess your resources

Your budget should be a top priority. There are several affordable options available in jewelry stores. It’s just a matter of spending time in looking for a reasonably priced engagement ring.

Wedding shoes ideas for NOT old-fashion brides

One thing that requires significant attention from a bride is her shoes. Usually, the bride shops for her wedding shoes after she has decided or ordered her wedding dress. However, deciding for which shoes to wear doesn't have to always come last. It has to be incorporated in deciding for the theme of the wedding.

Are you planning for a traditional wedding? White wedding gown, ground touching old-fashioned veil and a pair of old-fashioned white shoes? I say nay! Not because you are having a traditional church wedding you always have to be ultra-traditional with our shoes. You may go for a pair of white shoes but the style can be edgy.

Or, if you are dare you be a bit modern bride, you can even choose to go for a pair of red shoes [or yellow, purple, pink etc.].You just have to remember to match your bouquet with your colored shoes.

Win the fabulous Orient Watch USA Giveaway!

If there's anything that's lacking in my set of accessories, that's a sparkly fabulous watch. I don't really mind it often, I carry my cell phone with me most of the time and I get to check the time from it, but in times when I'm having classes and there's no wall clock hanging on the wall, and teachers are not suppose to carry cell phones with them as an example to students who are complaining against the ban of cell phones in schools, not having a watch is really a pain. I know, I should get a new watch!

Watch is a necessity, yes, but beauties such as the Orient CDB05001B       with sapphire crystal, study stainless steel band, and water resistance up to 50 meters, and a fashion forward CDB05001W with semi-skeleton features on the face and the case back, are almost a luxury.

The good news is, it's weekend. And if you noticed, I always open a giveaway on  weekends to give you, my dear girls, a lovely week start. One creative fashionista will win an Orient watch of your choice valued at $285.

5 Things to Remember Before Flying with Your Digital Camera

Photography is a must in fashion blogging. You don't have to be a pro-photographer but you at least must know how to operate a functional camera. You get blogging ideas from anything you do and from wherever you go. You don't want to miss the moments worthy to capture and share to the world. However, every time you pack your camera for your trip, there are things you must remember.

Before flying with your digital camera, you need to be aware of the rules for carrying a digital camera on the plane, consider getting your camera insured, protect your camera from harsh external elements, provide the necessary contact information on your camera, and take your camera out only when it is needed.

dslr-camera

Flying to new and different places can be an exciting activity, and you will definitely want to share the experiences you had or save something for remembrance. Digital cameras are popular gadgets for meeting this purpose. These gadgets are convenient enough to be easily packed in a cybershot case and then carried around. But before you pack up and head on your trip, there are a few tips you have to remember to keep your digital camera safe while you travel:

Be aware of the rules for carrying a digital camera on the plane

Most airline companies will allow camera bags as carry-on baggage. However, standard procedures might require you to have your camera bag inspected, or you might even have to check it if is too big. Knowing what regulations to expect will help you take appropriate measures such as using a hard case for your camera if you find out that you need to check it.

Consider getting your camera insured

If you have a basic point and shoot camera, insurance is probably impractical. But if you have a more advanced camera or SLR model, consider getting it insured. Make sure you closely examine the general insurance policy and check what coverage is available for damaged, lost or stolen cameras and whether the policy applies for both in-airport handling and at your travel destination.

Protect your camera from harsh external elements

Unpredictable weather can be one of the biggest threats to your camera while traveling. It is important that you keep your camera safe from extreme weather conditions like rain, snow and heat. Prepare a waterproof cybershot case or a sealed plastic bag for your camera in case it will be exposed to water or other harsh elements in the environment. If you notice any condensation building up on the surface of the camera or inside it, stop using it until you are able to get back indoors.

Provide the necessary contact information on your camera

Put some form of identification and contact information on your camera in case you misplace or lose it during your trip. You can put a small tag or sticker on your camera or camera bag and fill it up with your name, phone number, e-mail address and maybe the contact number of the hotel you are staying in. If you don’t want to stick anything on your camera, you can simply take a photo of a piece of paper filled with similar information and make sure it is on the first frame of the memory card. This way anyone who finds or picks up your camera can see the image if he or she turns on the gadget.

Take out your camera only when it is needed

In the same way that you would not walk around unfamiliar streets waving a stash of money, you should not wander around with your digital camera exposed. Keep it inside your bag and take it out only when you use it.

Following basic tips and buying the right protective equipment for your camera can help save you a lot of trouble when you fly with this expensive gadget.

4 Signs that You Need to Trim Your Hair

You might need to trim your hair if you notice that you have split ends, your hair is damaged, your hair is out of shape, and you have not changed your hairstyle in a while.

change-hair-style

Your hair is one of your most noticeable assets and taking care of it properly is very important. There are many products to use and ways that you can take care of your hair. Natural oils like pure Moroccan Argan oil can help nourish your hair and make it softer. Trimming your hair is also one way of taking care of your hair and can help make it become healthier. Even if you are purposely trying to make your hair grow longer, it is advisable to trim your hair regularly. But how can you tell if you need to trim your hair? Here are some signs:

long-hair

You have split ends

There is no effective solution to split ends, but there are ways to prevent split ends such as using conditioner regularly. If you already have split ends, then trimming your hair is a good idea. You should have your hair trimmed when you first notice the split ends because if you put off trimming your hair, the split ends will keep splitting and can turn into severely damaged split hair strands. Split ends can be spotted by looking closely at the tips of your hair. Unlike a normal hair strand which is intact from the root to the tip, split ends look like two separate strands at the tip. You can trim your hair at least an inch and half when you first see signs of split ends.

damaged-hair

Your hair is damaged

If you regularly style your hair with heat-styling devices like flat irons and blow dryers or apply chemical products and coloring treatments often, you might notice your hair becoming dry and unmanageable. Your hair could also break off easily making the texture rough and stiff, two symptoms of damaged hair. You can deep condition your hair regularly to avoid hair damage, but if it’s already too late to undo the damage caused by unhealthy hair practices, get a trim.

hair-split ends

Your hair is out of shape

Trim your hair when it becomes slightly unmanageable and no longer looks like the original hairstyle you want. Even if your hair is healthy, you can experience flyway strands or lack of volume. Remember that the longer your hair becomes, the more gravity tends to act on it to pull your hair down and out of shape. If your original hairstyle included choppy layers, side swept bangs and other significant details, this could be quite inconvenient. Regularly trimming your hair can help maintain its shape and style.

You have not changed your hairstyle in a while

Your hair can be your perfect accessory, and the right hairstyle can help bring out the best of your features. But, like fashion, hairstyle trends change regularly. If you have not changed your hairstyle in a long time, it might be a good idea to get a trim. You might actually like the change.

Hair care doesn’t really have to involve a lot of money and artificial products. A simple trim or the right natural products can make a lot of difference to your hair.

"When grace is joined with wrinkles, it is adorable. There is an unspeakable dawn in happy old age." ~ Victor Hugo

For someone who's terrified with wrinkles, this quote of Victor Hugo is worth remembering. Getting old with grace is adorable. But dude, come to think of it, I DON"T WANNA GET WRINKLES! I long for those years when the thought of wrinkles never even entered my mind. The times when looking at the mirror I never had to spend minutes checking the corners of my eyes, looking for signs of dryness or wrinkles. But who am I kidding? Sooner or later, I'm to deal with this very thing.

The good news is, I don't have to wait later to use the best rated anti wrinkle creams to protect my skin.  Why wait for past thirties before using the best under eye wrinkle creams if I can start now? Isn't prevention better than cure?

Killer Boots from my archives

"If I were to choose between a lovely dress and a fabulous pair of shoes, I'd take the shoes. Oh, how I love shoes!" My facebook private profile boldly screams this line. But hey, if I were to choose between an equally adorable pairs of evening shoes and boots, I'd take the boots. Of course, I would gladly take both. But if I can only get away with one, I'm leaning more for the killer boots.

Tonight, the shoeholic side of me is itching to come out. I decided to ease it by blogging about some of the boots that I found from my archives.

shoe_trends_otkboots
I wanted to give credit for this photo but I just can't remember the source.

I can just dream to buy all the boots that I fancy. I read tonight that 50% of your income can be spent for your needs, 20% for your savings and a whooping 30% for your wants. The latter percent is through the principle of "awarding yourself" first. In my case, I might as well award myself a pair of shoes every time I get my paycheck. But I'm VERY frugal. So go figure.

The good thing about fashion blogging is, I don't really have to buy all the boots that I fancy. I can just feed my eyes and when I'm done, share them to my readers.

So, my dear girls, are there any particular boots you're fancying right now?
